In recent years the Huangzhong district of Xining city has harnessed the plateau’s abundant sunshine for photovoltaic poverty‑relief projects. By combining solar power with agriculture, standardising operation and maintenance, and sharing earnings fairly, the community has turned the sun’s energy into a steady source of income for villages and households.
Take Baigutang Village in Lushar Town as an example. Its solar farm covers 883.55 mu (about 590,000 sq m), has a capacity of 34.1 MW, and began full‑capacity grid connection in 2019. The assets have been legally assigned to 156 villages that have lifted themselves out of poverty, creating a tangible green asset at the village level.
In Heicheng Village of Shangxinzhuang Town, 68‑year‑old Wang Yongfu and others receive long‑term income security through public‑service positions set up by the village.
